The Power of Poetry
Poetry is wonderful to use during reading and writing instruction. Poems should be selected based on the interests and experiences of the students. When possible, it is great to use poems that have been written by other children. I chose to write this double voice poem to show the teacher's
use of poetry, and the way a struggling student responded to it. It is likely that students with learning differences will at times feel frustrated and
unintelligent. Using poetry for reading and writing instruction is a wonderful way to help them see that they too can be successful.
